Swamp boat tours are one of the most popular things to do here in Louisiana. Sure, they are popular with tourists, but I think just as many locals take these tours, too. Taking a swamp tour during the day is one thing, but experiencing the swamps at night is a whole new ball game. This sunset paddle tour in Louisiana is picture-perfect from start to finish, and it's the perfect time of year to jump in a canoe and spend a few hours on the water. No experience necessary!
If you love Louisiana’s natural scenery in the daylight, then you’ll love this sunset swamp tour by Canoe & Trail Adventures.
The company is based out of Covington and typically launches into the Bogue Falaya River behind The Chimes.
For the sunset and moonlight tours, you’ll meet at Fontainebleau State Park.
They also can arrange transportation from New Orleans if you’re in town visiting. I wouldn’t recommend taking a taxi/rideshare out there, though. That can come with a hefty price tag if you’re coming from New Orleans.
The moonlight paddles are scheduled on the Saturday on or before the full moon. The sunset paddles don’t follow a lunar schedule, so you can book those more frequently.
Both paddle tours follow the same route and take 3-4 hours.
No experience is necessary for these paddle tours. In fact, they’re very beginner-friendly!
You’ll be given a life vest and basic training before you drop in, and you’ll have a guide with you throughout the tour.
Watching the sunset over the water from your kayak or canoe is a memorable experience.
Make sure you bring your camera! I'd recommend getting a waterproof protector for your phone beforehand.
After the sunset, you'll paddle back to the starting point under the moonlight.
This is when you'll start to see a whole new side of the swamps! Enjoy the symphony of sounds from all of the critters clocking in for their night shifts as you paddle back.
