I know we just finished with the holidays, but we've got to shift gears now...Mardi Gras season is officially here. As Mardi Gras day creeps near, you can expect a few things that only New Orleanians can relate to. Below are 8 undeniable ways you know its Mardi Gras season in New Orleans.
1. Your out of town friends start asking if they can come visit
And since the price of hotels skyrocket this time of year, they’ll want to stay with you.
2. The first thing you see when you walk into a grocery store is a tower of King Cakes
You’ll try to resist the temptation for as long as you can, but you know one of those is going to end up in your cart sooner or later.
3. Traffic gets worse
Especially during parade days
4. If you work near a parade route, you have to make sure you leave work early
Or you’ll be stuck there until the end of the parade.
5. If you live on a route, people you haven’t spoken to in ages will suddenly want to rekindle the friendship
That works both ways, actually. If you know someone who lives on a parade route, you’ve probably given them a call to see if you can use their restroom.
6. You have to dust off that ladder that’s found its way to the back of your shed.
If you have little ones, they’re almost necessary. But it’s so nice when they’re older and you don’t have to lug around a giant ladder to parades.
7. You start making a list of everyone you know who is riding in a parade, and where they are.
And it’ll look something like this: Ray, float 7, sidewalk side, towards the back.
8. "Mardi Gras Mambo" will be stuck in your head.
For no reason at all. It'll just pop into your head and stay there until Ash Wednesday.
