Sometimes you don't have a lot of time to explore everything that a city has to offer and you are on a tight schedule. Luckily, if you are in New Orleans, there is plenty of time to squeeze in some amazing activities. Here are the top 10 things you can do in the city in an hour or less--how many of these can you squeeze in during one day?
1) The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, 1 Collins C. Diboll Circle
This beautiful sculpture garden is found in the center of City Park, next door to the art museum. Since first opening just a few years ago, they have steadily grown their collection, offering some of the most beautiful sculptures you'll find anywhere. Some of them are quite thought provoking as well!
2) Tour Studio Be, 2941 Royal St.
Brandan Odums made a huge splash on the street art scene when he created amazing tribute portraits in the Desire area. Eventually that led to a beautiful installation on the Westbank, and ultimately to this gallery. So much amazing art to see here by this talented artist.
3) Explore the Jamie Hayes Gallery, 617 Chartres St.
Over the years, Jamie Hayes has slowly become one of the most popular and well known artists in New Orleans. In the gallery, you'll be able to see why Hayes' art has captured the imagination of the New Orleans for so many years. You might just want to buy one for yourself!
4) Take a Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride Through the French Quarter, 700 Decatur St.
Is there any better way to see and feel your way through the French Quarter? You'll love soaking up the sights and sounds, and the tour guides always have fascinating things to tell us about the quarter more generally.
5) Go on a Gondola Ride, City Park
Do you want to feel like you've taken a trip to Italy while still in New Orleans? Going on the NOLA Gondola ride is a great way to get started. You'll definitely want to bring along someone you're looking to snuggle up with!
6) Watch An IMAX Movie at the Aquarium
If you've never seen an IMAX movie, get this on your schedule ASAP. You'll be mesmerized by the incredibly huge screen and unique 3D technology. There's truly nothing else quite like it.
7) Visit the Pharmacy Museum, 514 Chartres St.
If you are looking to take a look at New Orleans in the past, check this place out. Believe it or not, back in the day, New Orleans was a center for medical innovation. The Pharmacy museum documents this history of our fair city.
8) Take a Walk Around Crescent Park, Piety St. @ Chartres St.
One of the newest parks in New Orleans, you are going to fall in love with the views offered up here. There are some really beautiful native plant gardens as well as a dog park for your four legged friends. And there are regular exercise classes held here--for free!
9) See Madame John’s Legacy, 632 Dumaine St.
If you want to get a glimpse of one of the oldest buildings in the French Quarter, check out the free museum here. They give you a really detailed look at the unique historic architecture found here.
10) Check out the Old Ursuline Convent, 1100 Chartres St.
When you are in the French Quarter, don't miss out on this convent. It's a place that will make you feel like you've traveled back in time. And there are some amazing stories about the nuns who use to call this convent home in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
