It's been a while since New Orleanians have had a festival, and one of the first festivals to return is one of the most beloved. Get ready to pig out for a good cause, because Hogs for the Cause is returning in June, and you're not going to want to miss it. The location may be different, but you can bank on some delicious BBQ just like every year.
Get ready, New Orleans, because Hogs for the Cause is returning for their annual festival, an epic Battle of the BBQ with a killer soundtrack.
Come out and celebrate the hard work for the year-round fundraising done on behalf of the Hogs, benefitting both local and national children’s hospitals, offering monetary relief to families with kids who have brain cancer.
This year, things have changed.
For many years, the UNO Lakefront Arena has been the home base for this popular festival. Because the Arena is currently being used as a COVID-19 testing site, the festival has moved to an outdoor location in Belle Chase.
The new location features 15 acres of green space.
And will be adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines. While this will certainly be a scaled-down festival from years past, you can still count on a good time.
In previous years, the festival was one of the biggest BBQ festivals in the country.
This year, the festival is limiting capacity to 25%, or roughly 5,000 people a day. While this is a far departure from previous years where the festival would easily clear 30,000, this year things have scaled back a bit to follow all capacity guidelines and make sure this is a fun, safe festival for everyone.
Although the location and the size may have changed, you can still bet on two things: good BBQ and good music.
Yes, please!
A grand total of 85 local and regional BBQ masters will put their skills to the test in seven categories: whole hog, ribs, pork butt/shoulder, porkpourri, sauce, fan-favorite, and fundraising champion.
You'll want to taste them all!
Tickets start at $69 and can go all the way up to $1,000.
General Admission tickets will include a wristband for contactless payment for all the delicious food and drinks you’ll consume at the fest.
You can even purchase a judge's ticket, so you can weigh in on who you think should be crowned the ultimate pitmaster.
Warning: it'll be the toughest decision you'll have to make! All of the teams are talented and deliver exceptional BBQ.
All transactions will be cashless, meaning all food and drink will be paid with the tap of your wristband.
The RFID wristband has been used by the Hogs since 2018. Not only is it much more convenient, but it minimizes contact and overall makes things much faster. Win-win!
There will be live music, too!
Hogs for the Cause always delivers an incredible line up of local and national talent, and this year is no different. Old Crow Medicine Show, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and the Honey Island Swamp Band are just a few of the bands that will be taking the stage over the two-day festival.
This is one of the most popular festivals in New Orleans, and with a much smaller capacity than previous years, you can bet tickets WILL sell out.
Don't miss your chance to eat phenomenal BBQ, listen to awesome music, and support a great cause.
Tickets are selling out fast, so be sure to get yours soon! Head on over to their website to purchase your tickets and see a full lineup for the weekend.
