With so many exciting things to do and see in Kentucky, you may find yourself dismissing a destination or two, especially if they seem too touristy. Kentucky's Bourbon Trail is definitely a tourist hot spot in our state, but it is also the perfect day trip for locals, and one particular distillery should not be overlooked. Maker's Mark in Loretto is a beautiful property that is perfect for exploring, learning, tasting, and enjoying a quintessential Kentucky experience.
If you've lived in Kentucky for even five minutes, then it's likely you have heard of the famous Bourbon Trail and even Maker's Mark Distillery.
Perhaps you don't care for bourbon, or you think these tours are just for visitors and tourists. But this quintessential Kentucky experience should really be tried by all locals and it must include a stop at the beautiful Maker's Mark Property.
Maker's Mark is of course famous for its bourbon, but its country setting also makes it a stand out.
The grounds are filled with Kentucky's signature rolling hills, stone fencing and historic buildings. The red accent color on many of the structures perfectly matches the red wax that the Maker's Mark bottles are well-known for. On an hour-long tour, you'll not only get to see the property and learn about the process of making this legendary bourbon, but you'll also have the opportunity to hand dip your very own bottle of Maker's Mark.
Before or after your tour, make sure to check out the onsite restaurant, Star Hill Provisions.
This exceptional dining experience is relatively new to the property and just adds to the charm of your visit. The menu is seasonal and artfully prepared and you can enjoy it with a crafted bourbon cocktail.
Maker's Mark often hosts special events and now through December 3rd, you can experience the stunning work of artist Dale Chihuly.
Chihuly's unique installations are currently situated around the property and you can choose to see them while on the private tour, or purchase a separate ticket to see the outdoor installations on your own. The pieces are amazingly distinct, yet complement the landscape of the distillery beautifully.
Maker's Mark Distillery is a well-known Kentucky destination that should not be forgotten.
