When describing something as colorful, you might expect to see a variety of colors and a bright tone. True, this is one meaning of the word colorful, but this adjective also means "full of interest, lively, and exciting." When you consider this definition, one particular city in Kentucky definitely comes to mind. Covington is beautifully situated on the riverfront in Northern Kentucky and has so much to offer. This city has gone through its ups and downs, but it is now a vibrant town in our state where there is so much to discover.
Covington is one of the largest cities in Kentucky and is often known for its amazing riverfront views of downtown Cincinnati. Those views are incredible, but it turns out that there is quite a bit to experience when looking the other way across the river, as well —right into this colorful and thriving town.
Covington has gone through many transformations over the years, which means it not only has an interesting present, but a fascinating past. This past, as well as all of the traditions of this city, are celebrated by its residents. One way that Covington has been memorialized is with a one-of-a-kind mural that covers the facade of the main Kroger grocery store in the city. The mural is filled with all of the features of the town that make it so special.
Covington is actually made up of several neighborhoods, and one of them is MainStrasse Village.
MainStrasse has long been a hub in the city, with many local restaurants, bars, and picturesque, historic buildings. In recent years, more and more people are calling this area home and are restoring the charming homes and condos into historically accurate, yet modern living spaces. When spending time in Covington, you should definitely take time to stroll through this neighborhood and its surrounding streets.
MainStrasse and Covington in general often host festivals and other events that bring plenty of fun to the area. During the warmer months, you'll almost always see something going on, vendors set up, and entertainment scattered about. Another popular spot in the city on a warm day is Goebel Park.
This inviting park is centered around a unique clocktower, and also has a playground, picnic areas, and green space to utilize. But Goebel Park is best known for the Goebel Goats that live on the grassy hill and act as adorable lawnmowers for the park. A visit to see them is a must when in Covington.
One of the most intriguing and endearing things about Covington is how residents are working hard to maintain and restore many of its historic buildings.
Hotel Covington is a new, award-winning overnight destination that was created inside a former, well-known department store. If you need a place to stay in town, there is no better option that captures both the history and the exciting present of Covington.
Covington may hang on to the past, but it is also a leader in the area of providing all of the fun things people expect in a vibrant city.
Braxton Brewing Company is one of the most successful local breweries that ranks right up there with the popular spots across the river in Cincinnati. You'll also find a wide variety of new restaurants that only add to the excitement of the city, such as The Gruff, pictured above.
