In a state like Kentucky, festival season is really any time of year. We love to celebrate in fall, winter, spring, and summer, and it seems like each weekend you can find a festive gathering to attend. One of the best festivals in Kentucky is the Gaslight Festival in Jeffersontown. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the multi-day celebration truly shines during its magical hot air balloon glow in Kentucky. This is just one of the events during the festival and it is sure to light up the end of your summer.
Jeffersontown is a lovely town east of Louisville that celebrates in a big way the third weekend of September.
Since this usually falls at the tail end of summer, it makes for the perfect opportunity to take the season out with a bang. The Gaslight Festival will celebrate 50 years this year and it's quite incredible what it has grown into over the decades.
The Gaslight Festival began as a small street party and has grown into one of the best festivals in the southeast.
It's now an 8-day celebration that includes a wide array of activities and culminates in a festival. This year, the festival itself takes place September 13-15 around Gaslight Square in Jeffersontown.
But before the festivities begin, things really get kicked off with a huge parade that will happen on Thursday, September 12th at 6 p.m.
Around 100 entries of all kinds will march through the streets of Jeffersontown and show off their love for this area. It has a small town appeal, but in a very grand scale.
The festival also includes a golf scramble, 5K race, a car show, and much more.
And then during the festival, enjoy over 200 arts, crafts, and vendor booths. There is also live entertainment and many activities.
And then on Friday evening, September 13th, the festival is illuminated with a hot air balloon glow in Kentucky.
Things will kick off at 6 p.m. and the glow portion starts at 7:15 p.m. This is a wonderful family-friendly event that everyone will enjoy.
Arrive early and take the time to walk around and get up close to these magnificent balloons.
Chat with the owners and operators and learn about the balloons. And then watch as they are filled with air and come to life.
As the sun goes down, the glowing atmosphere really is a great way to wrap up summer in Kentucky.
And once you've seen all of the balloons in their glory, continue wandering around the festival and take in the 50th celebration of one of the best gatherings in Kentucky.
The Gaslight Festival in Jeffersontown is not only one of the best festivals in Kentucky, but one of the best in the southeast. And the magical hot air balloon glow in Kentucky is one of the best features of the festival, which is truly a bucket list gathering in the Bluegrass. Have you been to the Gaslight Festival?
