There are so many properties in Kentucky that tell incredible stories and thankfully are maintained for us to enjoy. You could spend a lifetime discovering these hidden gems, but if you love spending time outdoors amongst abundant plant life and history, then this magical garden needs to top your list to visit. Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is located in Crestwood, Kentucky and is made up of several beautifully curated gardens and a number of structures, including a castle that adds just the right amount of intrigue to this special property you'll want to discover.
Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is located in Crestwood, just northeast of Louisville, making it easy to reach for those who wish to discover this internationally-recognized garden.
The property was once the private home and gardens of the late Theodore Klein and his family, but it is now a vast space that is beautifully maintained and arranged for the public to enjoy and connect with the outdoors. This botanical garden is unlike others in that it is also home to several eye-catching structures, including a magical castle.
The castle, as well as the other buildings on the property, have been restored, as they were built between the 1940s and 1980s. They now act as useful - and beautiful - additions to Yew Dell.
The castle was originally built as the family's pool house, and now has a small working kitchen and a central room that can be rented for meetings, retreats, and special events. It definitely adds infinite charm to this already picturesque destination.
Aside from the lovely buildings that are scattered throughout the vast property, the land itself is why you spend time at Yew Dell.
Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is much larger than you might expect. It is divided into several different gardens and has more than a mile of hiking trails that take you outside of the main area.
With each step, you'll discover new plant life, fluttering butterflies, and unexpected surprises. There are hidden spots to sit and take it all in and views that you won't soon forget.
Yew Dell is so uniquely magical and one of the most whimsical areas is the Fairy Forest.
Explore this naturally created forest with little homes that are ideal for fairies and gnomes. Let your imagination wander in this, and all of the areas of the gardens.
The gardens are open all year long, and something is always in bloom, no matter the season.
