Did you know Kansas was part of the Pony Express? Not many people know about Kansas' role in this chunk of history, but this Pony Express museum gives us a brief look into years past. If you're a Kansas history nut, come check out this unique history museum for a road trip you won't forget.
The building you see here is the home station for the Pony Express, built in 1859 and leased to the Pony Express the following year.
What many don't know, is that the Pony Express only operated for about 18 months, carrying mail from Missouri to California. The only reason it was cut short, is because the telegraph was invented and put in place, cutting communication speed much shorter.

Every year in June, they reenact a full re-ride from Sacramento, CA to St. Joseph, Missouri, alternating directions each year. If you visit on the morning of June 11, 2019, you should be able to witness the Kansas portion of that long trip.
The museum building here is an important part of the history, but it's also filled with antique pieces of the time period as well as vehicles from the era. Imagining how long it took to get from place to place is always amazing when you think about just how much cars have made a difference to the world.
Though you're here for the Pony Express, you'll find tidbits of history about Marysville and local transportation.
It's open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, during the warm season, generally April to October.
