Do you remember getting on your first carnival ride and feeling the wind through your hair? It's probably been a while since you've had the childhood wonder of seeing your first carousel. However, at this museum, you can not only ride one, but see so many pieces and models of carousels that came before. This museum will take you back in time to that age when carousels were magic.
Let's take a look, shall we?
This museum has four antique carousels, and many non-attached horses and other animals that belonged to other carousels once upon a time. The museum is mainly a tribute to C.W. Parker Amusement Enterprises, but they do have horses from other makers, too.
Fun fact, did you know that they used to be called "Carry-us-all's" before it was shortened to carousels? Like some of our other words, they eventually merged together over time.
The director of the museum is a master woodcarver, and he restores old horses as well as their mechanics.
This particular carousel (in front) is from around 1850, and still operating. It's too fragile to hold people, but all the mechanisms still work just fine. It's actually the oldest still-operating carousel in the U.S., which is a feat in itself, considering it was last ridden in the 20s.
They have a 103-year-old restored Parker carousel that's available for rides, for all ages. It was fully restored in 2005, and remains in great condition to this day.
