Are you just one castle away from living a true fairy tale life? Me too. (Well, one castle and teaching my cat and toddler to cook, clean, and make beautiful dresses for me...) Fortunately for those of us who crave a royal lifestyle, there is no need to move to a far away kingdom to find our magic palace, as Kansas is home to this beautiful castle:
Located in Shawnee, Caenen Castle is a stunning European-style castle that was built in 1907 and inspired by France's Chateau Chavaniac.
It took owner (and Belgium immigrant) Remigius "Remi" Achille Caenen and a hired hand two years to collect and lay the 18-to-24 inch thick stones, which they did whenever Remi was finished with his daily work on the farm.
The castle was a true sight to behold—as much back then as it is today—and even featured several modern amenities and details (hand-carved European fireplace, anyone?) for the time.
Needless to say, Caenen Castle has also earned a spot on the prestigious Register of Historic Kansas Places list.
Aside from being the home to Remi and many of his children, the castle has served another number of uses including nursing home, haunted house, nightclub, and most recently...
...as Renee Kelly’s Harvest restaurant!
The gourmet restaurant, which was opened in the mid-2000s, embraces a farm-to-table menu that serves only the freshest meat and produce from local farmers.

Did we mention that you can also rent the castle for weddings and other special events?
I'll drink to that!
