There's plenty of odd things going on in and around Kansas City, and it's not hard to run into a few of them while you go about your daily life. To help you find the hidden ones, here's a list of the best 8 roadside attractions that will definitely make you look twice!
1. Magdalena Abakanowicz's Standing Figures - 4525 Oak St., Kansas City, Missouri
This haunting sculpture might mean many things, but it's definitely odd. Seeing anything headless is pretty unnerving, to be honest.
2. The World's Largest Cap Gun - 1220 Union Ave., Kansas City, Missouri
Though I don't think anyone's going to be handling this anytime soon, it's a cool spot to stop and take a picture of. It sure is a unique little gun, pointing down at nearby traffic.
3. Louise Bourgeois's Spider - E. 45th St., Kansas City, Missouri
There's nothing weirder than a big ol' spider sculpture, especially with this abnormal, artistic appearance. Last time I saw a spider with legs twisted up like this, it was on fire! Thank goodness it was only a tiny one...
4. The World's Largest Ball of String - O'Malley's Irish Pub - 500 Welt St., Weston, Missouri
Though the owners of this pub don't advertise their ball of string, if you stop in for a drink, you might catch a glimpse of the famous ball.
5. The Hall of Waters - 201 E Broadway Ave., Excelsior Springs, Missouri
The Hall of Waters used to have free-flowing waters of all kinds, with different minerals and "flavors" for people to try. Today, it's not used for water and houses government offices. We're glad it wasn't left completely vacant!
6. The KC Superman - Various Locations
This local superhero is known as the Superman of Kansas City (a.k.a. the Super Runner For The Lord). He has a lengthy police record with over 50 arrests for running in places he shouldn't be, but his legacy of preaching and running has kept our love for him alive for years.
7. Jesse James' "Feather Duster of Death" - 21216 Jesse James Farm Rd., Kearney, Missouri
I've never heard of a deadly feather duster, but apparently, this one at Jesse James' farm was in his hand when he was fatally shot in the head. Of course, that doesn't mean the feather duster was to blame...
8. Leila's Hair Museum - 1333 S Noland Rd., Independence, Missouri
This hair museum is definitely on the weird side, with tons of art made from hair. Of course, it's always a little creepy to see hair everywhere, but give the art a chance! It might surprise you.
Yes, this is made of hair. Pretty impressive, even if it is a little creepy...
Are there other unusual attractions you think belong on this list? Which one do you find the weirdest? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
Of course, while you're out and about, you should visit this charming town near KC that's so perfectly Midwestern.
