It's almost time to strike up the band and loosen the waistband, because Oktoberfest in Des Moines is upon us once again! If you love food, drink, music, and fun like we do, you probably spend all year looking forward to this annual tradition. This will be the 19th annual Des Moines Oktoberfest, and the traditional German party takes over a large event space for a festival that perfectly blends the traditional and the modern. This year, you can expect delicious German food, including some of the state's best sausages, the finest German beers around, and a mix of entertainment that will keep the energy high well into the night. This year's Oktoberfest will be held on September 22nd and 23rd, and while each event is a little bit different, one thing is for sure - it'll be the event of the year for any Des Moines resident who loves this traditional German festival.
German spirit will soon be flowing through the streets of Des Moines as Oktoberfest kicks off a weekend of dance, music, food, and drink.
Of course, Oktoberfest wouldn't be Oktoberfest without some fine beer, and the suds will definitely be flowing.
The food, coming from some of the best German food purveyors in the state, always stands out. These are no standard superpretzel!
The smell of the grills firing up the state's best sausages will entice you in long before you get on line. The currywurst is a specialty every year.
Live music will be playing through the event, but there will be other activities as well - such as the annual stein-holding competition, a true feat of endurance!
When the night gets long, and you need to take a load off, head to one of the many beer tents for a communal dining experience that's straight out of the old country.
