Indiana is filled with gorgeous and unique churches. From the famous Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Notre Dame to the stunning and original churches in Columbus, there's no shortage of breathtaking architecture when it comes to these spiritual structures. There's one church in particular though that's lesser known, but a true work of art.
The Roofless Church in New Harmony is one of the most unique churches in the world. This non-denominational church can be found outdoors and is open to anyone.
The concept of the "roofless" church is that the only roof large enough to fully encompass all of the worshippers in the world was the sky itself. Thus, the structure remains outdoors where visitors of all faiths can quietly reflect and worship. The unique design is unlike any other. Some believe it to be a draped cloth design, while others believe it to be a rosebud.
Ornate details can be found all around the church, inside of the church grounds. The Descent of the Holy Spirit, a Lipchitz sculpture, can be found in bronze, while other statues and inscriptions can be found scattered nearby.
The intriguing outdoor fountain reads: In celebration of all grandparents for the great goodness that flows through and from them.
The gorgeous scenery along the grounds of the roofless church are absolutely heavenly and a work of art themselves.
The Angel of the Annunciation statue was created by Stephen de Staebler to represent the Archangel Gabriel or Gabriela. You'll find this near the southern entrance of the church.
The nearby Cathedral Labyrinth is another astonishing work of art that lends a serene and beautiful place for reflection.
