Ah, yes, it's summertime once more and it's definitely in full swing now, wouldn't you say? Summer in Indiana is typically a really fun time, excellent for anyone who loves the outdoors to get out and enjoy it. It's also festival season, and believe it or not, there are plenty of awesome festivals in the Hoosier State that are totally worth checking out. Take, for example, the annual Touch of Dutch Festival in Indiana, an annual family fair dedicated to, well, all things Dutch. Taking place on the second Saturday of every August, this wonderful little Dutch festival is a reminder of how important culture and community are.
The town of DeMotte, Indiana, is pretty small; its population is just over 4,000, and it's not exactly known as a premier summer vacation destination.
But maybe it ought to be, because there's at least one annual event taking place in town that I strongly suspect is a must-do for anyone who's ever lived here: the wonderful Touch of Dutch Festival.
This summertime tradition is nothing to shake a stick at, with anywhere from 5,000 to 6,000 guests in attendance every year.
Admission is 100% free, and so is parking. Be sure to bring good walking shoes, water, and, of course, your appetites for both adventure and delicious Dutch cuisine.
Beginning first thing at 9 a.m. is the car show, which is easily one of the most-beloved parts of the event.
From there, there will be a parade, a basketball tournament, live music, a 1950s-themed fashion show, and so much more.
Speaking of said parade, it might just be the highlight of the day (well, other than the food, of course).
Local fire and EMS are typically a much-loved guest at the annual parade, and so are lots of other local folk and organizations, so be sure to get here early and sit right up front. This entire event is the very definition of "community".
Definitely bring your appetite - you'll probably never eat so many pierogies in your life.
...not that this is a bad thing. Nope - it's a very, very tasty thing. Lucky us.
So, come on out to the Touch of Dutch Festival in Indiana, which takes place this year on August 12th.
