South Bend holds one specific (and interesting) winter record: it's the one town in Indiana that receives the most snowfall every year.
So, how much snow is "the most" snow? Over 60 inches worth, annually.
Compare this to the national average, which is just 28 inches of snow per year, and the overall Indiana average, which ranges from 21 to 64 inches, depending on whether you're in the northern or southern parts of the state, and you see why South Bend remains at the top of the list.
If this doesn't sound all that impressive, it does get better when compared to places you'd typically think about when thinking of snow.
Minneapolis - St. Paul sees an annual average of 55.5 inches of snow per year. Provo, Utah, sees about 57 inches of snow annually. But South Bend still wins with its 64.3 inches per year, which is about the same as Cleveland, Ohio!
