There's an old farm in the town of Commiskey, Indiana that is full of so many wonders, you'll surely want to spend the whole day there. Consisting of an amazing place to dine, a wine shop, a plant nursery, and a vintage store, this all-in-one attraction is a must-visit for any Hoosier. It's called Stream Cliff Farm, Restaurant & Winery and we know you'll agree that it offers a great deal of old-fashioned charm and beauty. Scroll on to learn all about it:
Stream Cliff Farm, Restaurant & Winery is an amazing place with roots that go all the way back to 1821 when families were moving out west to start new lives.
It wasn't until about 40 years ago that it opened as a shopping destination and restaurant. The original owners of this place were Quakers who bought the old farm from the local Methodist Church. When Jimmy Harmon died in 1863, he left his possessions to the church. The property was later bought by the family that still owns it today, and has turned it into one of the best farms in Indiana.
One of the biggest draws to this wonderful and historic place is the winery.
Whether you are a passing wine sipper or a staunch oenophile, you will find something that suits your fancy here.
Guests enjoy hand-crafted wines made from a variety of fruits.
Think farm-fresh fruit like blackberries, peaches, cranberries, and apples. Dry varieties and seasonal selections are always available.
With seating for about 40 people, the winery has a cellar room where guests can dine and occasionally enjoy live music.
To make your visit to this rustic setting even more romantic, you get to enjoy your meal by candlelight.
This old farm also houses a restaurant called Twigs & Springs.
It is situated in an old barn and features décor that is rustic and simple. It's like having a picnic on a farm.
Popular dishes include cilantro-lime chicken, birdseed pasta salad, and, Stream Cliff's 1/3-pound burger.
You'll also want to try the hummingbird cake, blackberry cobbler, or bread pudding. They are some of the best desserts you've ever tasted.
You can also shop until you drop at Stream Cliff Farm. Though not quite an antique store (more a "junktique" market), it does offer vintage crafts, decor, jewelry, and old farm tools.
The Old Barn Market is an event that takes place seasonally. During the holidays, this market also hosts what they call the Christmas on the Farm Old Barn Market. You can purchase some great gifts for friends and family here.
Booths are lined up inside and out of this old barn for the event.
The farm is also home to Indiana's oldest nursery.
Here, you'll find herbs, flowers, and many other plants like you'd find at a botanical garden, and you can even take a class to learn how to become a master gardener yourself. The nursery and most other areas of this farm are open to the public on certain days of the week.
Another amenity offered here is a chapel for small weddings.
As the grounds of this place are already gorgeous and romantic, the owners decided to put up this structure to complete every couple's perfect wedding day.
In addition to the restaurant, winery, and nursery, the grounds of this farm will give you plenty to do. It's some of the best of Indiana agritourism.
Stroll stunning garden paths complete with benches, statues, and archways.
You can receive more information about the farm and all of its various entities on the Stream Cliff Farm website or Facebook page.
