Ah, winter in Indiana - a time of magic and one of my favorite seasons of the year. I personally love that everything’s covered in a layer of snow, the nights are longer, and there’s still so much to do! And what better way to welcome the season than by a visit to the snowiest town in Indiana? Which one do you think it is? If you said South Bend, you’re absolutely correct! If you’re a lover of all things snowy and white, you’ll love a visit to South Bend during the winter – after all, it gets more snow than anywhere else in the Hoosier State! So, if you’ve ever wondered how much snow does South Bend Indiana get, come with us to explore the enchanting town. Just be sure to come prepared with your warmest winter travel essentials.

South Bend is located in St. Joseph County, nestled right along a river of the same name. It's most famous for being adjacent to the University of Notre Dame, which has certainly seen its fair share of time in the spotlight for a multitude of interesting reasons.

When the snow falls in South Bend, though, something magical happens - the entire landscape transforms into something that's nothing short of a winter wonderland. South Bend holds one specific (and interesting) winter record: it's the one town in Indiana that receives the most snowfall every year. So, how much snow is "the most" snow? Over 60 inches worth, annually.

Compare this to the national average, which is just 28 inches of snow per year, and the overall Indiana average, which ranges from 21 to 64 inches, depending on whether you're in the northern or southern parts of the state, and you see why South Bend remains at the top of the list. If this doesn't sound all that impressive, it does get better when compared to places you'd typically think about when thinking of snow.

Minneapolis - St. Paul sees an annual average of 55.5 inches of snow per year. Provo, Utah, sees about 57 inches of snow annually. But South Bend still wins with its 64.3 inches per year, which is about the same as Cleveland, Ohio! There are plenty of fun things to do in South Bend during the winter, even if you're not a huge fan of the snow. .

Enjoy horse-drawn sleigh rides, holiday lights as far as the eye can see, and all sorts of fun winter festivities to enjoy while you're here. Go ice skating, build a snowman, and sip hot cocoa. The possibilities are only as endless as your imagination! South Bend might be the snowiest town in Indiana, but it's also the town that knows how to make winter a delight, through and through. After all, they've definitely got the experience!

The legendary Indianapolis 500 is a bucket list event for many. Held annually over Memorial Day Weekend, Indianapolis experiences a surge of tourism that few other cities ever experience. Even if you don’t score tickets to the race, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is worth your time. It’s currently under a massive renovation, and when it reopens, it’ll be one of the best new attractions in Indianapolis. Let’s check it out:

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is the ultimate destination for motorsports fans. The museum opened in 1956 and showcases former Indianapolis 500 winning cars, pace cars, and general automotive history.

The museum has been closed since November 2023 and is currently undergoing a massive facelift.

The $89 million renovation and modernization project, which is scheduled to reopen in 2025, will be the museum's first massive renovation in 40 years.

There are many new attractions and exhibits planned, including a brand new, 6,000-square-foot mezzanine level. This new level will house plenty of interactive and educational exhibits as well as become a rentable space for future events.

If you’ve visited the museum before the renovation, you’ll want to make plans to visit it again. The museum is going to look completely different from the moment you step inside. There will be a new layout with new exhibits and a more intuitive design, which we can’t wait to check out.

The museum is staying within its same footprint, but the essential infrastructure is also getting a facelift. Better humidity control, better storage systems for artifacts, and controlled lighting ensures that the collections inside the museum continue to be preserved for many years to come.

Even though the museum is closed for now, track tours of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are open. These tours offer guests a chance to go behind the scenes of the world’s most famous racecourse. I’d recommend pairing a track tour with a hidden gems of Indianapolis tour for the perfect day.
