The Fort Wayne Cherry Blossom Festival brings the beauty of Japan right to Indiana. This annual event appreciates the delightful spring blooms and Japanese culture. The festival is May 19, 2024, at Purdue Fort Wayne's Walb Student Union and the surrounding area. Free parking is available in P1, P2, and Lot 11. You won't want to miss this unique celebration from noon to 6:00 p.m.
Activities will take place throughout Walb Student Union, the Skybridge, the Science Mall, the Friends Pavilion, and the Alumni Plaza.
This is one of the best spring festivals in Indiana.
Traditional music and dancing are some of the most memorable parts of the event, such as the
participating Fort Wayne Taiko.
Some other entertainment includes Classical Guitarist Daniel Quinn and Mike Tsugawa who will demonstrate how to make Kendama, a Japanese skill toy.
Spirit Bomb will also perform a concert and the Fort Wayne Suzuki Strings will play some tunes.
Each festival brings new and exciting traditional performing arts, such as the Kendo Club of Indianapolis to return this year.
In addition, Do Genbukai of Indiana will demonstrate Japanese karate and kobudo classes.
Of course, the Tea Ceremony is something we all enjoy watching.
This ritualized preparation and presentation of matcha, a powdered green tea, will be demonstrated in Ura Senke Style.
Enjoy the authentic offerings from the Taste of Japan.
The vendors this year include All Over Creations, Bamboo Garden, Bimi Bistro, Heart of Asian Fusion, Kona Shaved Ice, Local Apple Cart, and Travelin' Tom's Coffee Truck.
The event also invites you to participate by drawing in the Anime contest and dressing up as your favorite Anime character for the Cosplay contest.
We like creating poems for the Haiku contest.
You will see gorgeous kimonos and can even try one on for a photo.
General admission is free and most activities do not cost extra.
Of course, nature is the main draw to this event, and Bonsai trees abound.
This beautiful tree was displayed in 2013 at the Indianapolis Bonsai Club. Welcome spring with the celebration of the cherry blossoms in Indiana at this wonderful event that locals adore and look forward to each and every year.
