The castle-like building that sits in downtown Fort Wayne is The History Center, which houses the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society and is known for collecting artifacts about Allen County and the city of Fort Wayne.
The building was constructed in 1893 and is actually the old City Hall building, which is a piece of history itself. The society did not start until 1921.
Known as the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, it is home to more than 26,000 items today including documents, artifacts, and images.
At this castle museum, you'll find exhibits about Native Americans, Anthony Wayne, Industry, the city of Fort Wayne, the county and more.
All sorts of different items are on display for guests to see. Many are pieces of clothing or furniture that were actually used by people in the past.
In addition to the exhibits, the museum also offers a gift shop as well as events throughout the year that include a lecture series, farmers market, and a gingerbread house contest.
Admission to this castle museum is $6 for adults and $4 for children between the ages of 3 and 17 as well as for senior citizens above the age of 65. Children age 2 and below are admitted for free.
The History Center is open Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. as well as Saturday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., and you can learn more on its website or Facebook page.
