Ask any local where the most haunted spot in town is and they'll probably point you in this direction; it's a notoriously haunted cemetery in Indiana where the restless spirits of the deceased are said to be quite active in their afterlives. Come visit Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport, Indiana... if you dare.
The Mount Hope Cemetery isn't just the most haunted cemetery in Indiana; it's also the third-largest cemetery in the state, with more than 81,000 people buried or otherwise interred here.
It's beautiful, and at a first glance, seems to be a place of peace and respite. It's a well-kept, very green slice of paradise that really does feel like the perfect place to rest... forever.
Mount Hope Cemetery was initially opened in 1854, and eventually, it merged with the 9th Street Cemetery, which was established in 1828.
As a result, it's a place with some very old graves - and very persistent spooks.
Unfortunately, there are many souls here that are not at rest, even a little bit - or so they say.
There are all sorts of folks buried here, from average citizens to war heroes, and a lot of Logansville's history can be found here. In turn, there are many different ghosts and apparitions regularly reported on the grounds, like the sounds of phantom cannon fire and galloping horses.
Other reports speak of an eerie whistling phenomenon; it's said that if you wander through the cemetery, whistling from time to time, there are spirits who will whistle back.
We're not sure about you, but that's about when we'd nope out of there - but not before we try it anyway. You know... to see what happens.
In the mausoleums, you'll find inscriptions that are a lot more spooky than sweet.
Some of them read things like Knock three times and they shall come, with little to no context about who "they" are or what their "coming" represents.
But, don't get us wrong - the grounds are beautifully kept.
The cemetery is vibrant, lush, and green - a far cry from your traditional creepy graveyard you encounter in various "haunted places" of lore. You wouldn't expect this place to be as creepy as it is... but you'll figure it out soon enough.
