The Southern Illinois Mercantile Company is not your average store. It was started by two friends, Tanya and Ellen, who had a shared dream of opening a place where people could meet up with friends, stop in for some ice cream, and hang out in a welcoming atmosphere. The "Merc," as it's known, is a place where people want to spend time, shop for hand-crafted items made by local artists, and maybe stay for a game of checkers. The owners welcome you to their unique retail establishment that is so much more than a store!
The Southern Illinois Mercantile Company is located in the city of Marion on Main Street. This place is a must-visit in the area with its unique gifts, coffee bar, retro sodas, and, best of all, ice cream!
You will find vintage, one-of-a-kind, handmade artisan goods from many different vendors here. So, if you are looking for gifts a bit out of the ordinary, this is the place to come.
When you shop here, you are not only supporting this local business but artists, crafters, authors, and more who reside in the great state of Illinois.
It's no secret that a big draw to The Merc is the ice cream and you will find some of the best in Southern Illinois here. The ice cream is by Bliss, which handcrafts it in small batches using unique ingredients to create some fascinating flavor combinations.
Discover flavors like Mississippi Mud, Chocolate Covered Peanut, PB&J, and Butter Toasted Pecan, just to name a few. Ice cream flavors rotate so check the website for what is current. You can even order your favorite flavor online to be picked up at the store!
Come sit at the bar for some incredible (coffee) brew. Order it hot or cold or get a coffee float for something a little extra. You will definitely want to stay awhile (and maybe order another).
If you are craving a retro soda, choose from the dozens of flavors here at The Merc, the largest old-fashioned soda retailer in southern Illinois. Grab your favorite and add a scoop of ice cream for a real treat!
