For most people, summer is means carefree fun and vacations to a warmer climate, but if you live in a tropical-climate year-round, summer can be a real bummer. Here are a few ideas to help you survive a sweltering Florida summer.
1. Find A New Beach
Try to see this unbearable heat as an opportunity to branch out and explore some of the best beaches in the country. Long Key State Park is a great example, but no matter where you live there's probably an amazing beach near you.
2. Start Up The Sprinkler
You don't have to venture any farther than the front yard to beat the heat. Some of the most fun things kids can do in the summer are also totally free. Remember running through the sprinkler, grilling out at pool parties, epic water balloon fights, and wiping out on homemade slip-n-slides?
3. Break Out The Blender
Nothing boosts the spirits like a frosty glass of, well, spirits. This is the perfect time to show off your wannabee bartender skills, especially with frozen favorites like margaritas. Invite your friends and watch your popularity skyrocket.
4. Create Your Own Summer Style
If you have any sewing experience at all, this is the perfect time to experiment. Summer means casual is cool, and skimpier outfits mean generally easier and less expensive projects. If you're not into sewing, you can still try easy projects like making your own cutoffs from old jeans or tank tops from t-shirts.
5. Be Prepared
Everyone has their own summer rules, but the most important ones are to make sure your freezer is properly stocked with enough ice pops to last the entire summer, and to make sure you have tons of water everywhere you go.
6. Try One Of Our Awesome Waterparks
If you're bored of the beach, try out one of our thrilling waterparks, like Aquatica. Or take one last nostalgic trip to Wet 'n Wild before it bites the dust in 2016.
7. Get Creative With Your Frozen Treats
What a fun and delicious way to embrace the summer. Gourmet ice pops are all the rage, at least here anyway, so why not experiment with your own fresh fruit combinations?
8. Give Summer Romance A Shot
Though they're usually as short-lived as summers themselves, these seasonal trysts can really spice up an otherwise uneventful summer. I say seize the day.
9. Vacation Somewhere Cold
If snowbirds can invade our beaches at the first sign of snow in their hometowns, why can't we escape our hellishly high temperatures with a vacation to the north? Seems like Alaska is gorgeous this time of year.
10. Or If You're Like Me...Hide Indoors Until It's All Over
As a Florida native, I think I've earned the right to speak my mind and say I find our hot, humid, seemingly endless summers almost unbearable. I spent many years trying to find ways to make it work, and I've come to the conclusion I just do not like feeling sweaty and hot and miserable. I still love Florida, but I feel perfectly fine with choosing the great indoors until the worst is over.
How do you feel about Florida summers? Do you have any tips about making it through those hot, humid days? Please leave your comments below!
