1. Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Bear
The Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Bear is one of the most expansive in the state. You'll often find fields adorned with hundreds of miniature American flags, particularly around the holidays.Address: 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE 19701
2. War Memorial Plaza, New Castle
The often overlooked War Memorial Plaza is right at the base of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Take some time on your next trip out of state to stop at the park and reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.Address: 163 Cherry Ln., New Castle, DE 19720
3. Tubman-Garrett Park, Wilmington
The statue of Harriet Tubman and Thomas Garrett is titled "Unwavering Courage in the Pursuit of Freedom", and it truly is a perfect name. Tubman and Garrett worked hand-in-hand along the Underground Railroad to bring slaves through Delaware and into free territory, where they could begin to search for a better life.Address: Tubman, Garrett Riverfront Park, Wilmington, DE 19801
4. Rodney Square, Wilmington
Paul Revere gets all the press, but Delawareans know it was Caesar Rodney who conquered the most testing ride of the American Revolution. Rodney rode 70 miles through a thunderstorm on the night of July 1st, 1776, arriving in time for the July 2nd vote in his boots and spurs, breaking a deadlock vote for Delaware's addition to the Declaration of Independence. 5. Delaware War Veterans Memorial, Dover
There is a beautiful Veterans Memorial just outside of the Delaware Public Archives Building. This Delaware Memorial is a tribute to those who have fallen in time of war. Address: 121 M.L.K. Jr Blvd N, Dover, DE 19901
6. 1812 Memorial Park, Lewes
During the War of 1812, the City of Lewes was bombareded by a British Fleet. This 1812 Memorial Park commemorates the strength that Lewes showed during the brutal and trying war, just a few short years after the difficult American Revolution.1812 Memorial Park, Lewes, DE 19958
7. Mason-Dixon Stones, Delaware/Maryland Border
All along the Delaware-Maryland border, you'll find Mason-Dixon Survey Stones! Many people don't realize that Delaware is actually east of the Line. If you're a hiker, take the Boundary Line Trail in White Clay Creek State Park to find the original Post Mark'd West.
8. Cooch's Bridge,
The Battle of Cooch's Bridge was the only Revolutionary Battle fought in Delaware. It was also the first time the Stars and Stripes were flown in battle! Unfortunately, it was a tactical victory for the British, and the original bridge did not survive the war. Today, a memorial exists at the site.Address: S Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702
9. Kent County Veterans Memorial Park
Kent County Veterans Memorial Park is a sight to see. This impressive collection of Delaware monuments and memorials includes tributes to all those lost in major wars, as well as a monument to Gold Star Mothers, and a Vietnam-era Huey Helicopter. 10. Fort Christina, Wilmington
This Fort marks the spot where Swedish and Finnish Settlers docked the Kalmar Nyckel and stepped foot into Delaware for the first time. Their original settlement was called Fort Christina, and today, a gorgeous monument exists right along the very wharf where they landed.Address: 1110 E 7th St., Wilmington, DE 19801
