When the sun is shining, the best thing to do is hit up some Delaware boardwalks. There aren't just beaches in Delaware with boardwalks, though. Whether you want to pig out on junk food, enjoy stunning views, or relax on an easy trail hike, Delaware boardwalks are the ticket to a perfect summer afternoon of some fun in the sun.
1. Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk
Of course, there's only one boardwalk in Delaware that can top this list! Rehoboth Beach isn't just home to the best boardwalk in Delaware, though. It's the best boardwalk in the world, thanks to its variety of shops, restaurants, food stands, vendors, and arcades.
2. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge
When you want something a little more natural, Prime Hook's boardwalks will show off gorgeous ponds (like Fleetwood pond, pictured here), waterways, marshes, and more. The refuge truly boasts some of the best hiking trails in Delaware.
3. Bethany Beach Boardwalk
Bethany Beach is home to one of the best Delaware boardwalks for families. Enjoy a quieter, smaller stretch of shops, food stands, and restaurants right along the beach. You'll find the famous boardwalk fries here too!
4. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge
When searching for Delaware boardwalks, Bombay Hook won't disappoint. It is a bigger, more popular National Wildlife Refuge that features a boardwalk in Delaware. Stroll for a bit and enjoy the endless birding opportunities at this world renowned refuge.
5. Gordon's Pond/Junction and Breakwater Trail
The Gordon's Pond/Junction and Breakwater Trail is one of the most stunning walks in Cape Henlopen State Park. From the boardwalk, you'll see expansive marshes, plenty of birds, and other wildlife, and historic World War II lookout towers.
6. Wilmington Riverwalk
Finally, sometimes you don't have the hours it takes to drive to the beach or explore a wildlife refuge. That's when the Wilmington Riverwalk comes in. You'll be able to see museums, board a paddleboat, and dine along the water after strolling this pretty waterfront walkway. Not just one of the best boardwalks in Delaware, the Wilmington Riverwalk is revered as one of the nation’s best riverwalks.
So, have you been lucky enough to visit any (or all) of these Delaware boardwalks? If so, which ones? What are your favorite beaches in Delaware with boardwalks? Speaking of beaches, what do you think are the best beaches in Delaware? Tell us; we want to hear from you.
When you've finished crossing all of the Delaware boardwalks listed above, consider embarking on the Yorklyn Bridge Trail. As the name implies, it includes a bridge. What the name doesn't tell you, though, is that the trail leads to the ruins of an abandoned mill, making for a unique adventure like no other.
