Nestled in a quiet residential area in Winsted sits a memorial that's both poignant and beautiful. Soldiers' Monument and Memorial Park stands as a meaningful reminder of those who sacrificed their lives during the American Civil War. The well-manicured grounds, impressive architecture, and tranquil atmosphere make this park the perfect place to relax and reflect.
As you stroll along the southern end of Crown Street in Winchester, a majestic castle-like structure will certainly catch your eye.
The park sits on top of a circular hill, surrounded by lush green trees.
To reach the structure, walk through the stone archway.
Built in 1890, Soldiers' Monument stands at an impressive 44 feet tall. The three-level building is made out of ashlar granite from a local quarry.
On top of the monument sits a bronze statue of a Civil War soldier. This piece of art was designed by renowned Connecticut sculptor George Bissell.
On special occasions, Soldiers' Monument and Memorial Park hosts special events.
