If you're a thrill-seeker looking to experience the paranormal, we know just where you should go. Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport is praised as one of the most gorgeous cemeteries in Connecticut, but it's also rumored to be full of eerie spirits. Even if you don't believe in the creepy spirits from beyond the grave, you'll love meandering through the historical grounds.
P.T Barnum founded Mountain Grove Cemetery in 1849, and he was laid to rest here in 1891.
In fact, an ominous tale surrounds the famous showman's grave.
In May 1981, just one month after P.T Barnum passed away, a group of criminals reportedly tried to steal the showman's body and hold it for ransom. Thankfully, watchmen caught the gravediggers before they reached his coffin. However, some historians think this story was nothing but a publicity stunt for his upcoming circus tour.
Though you're unlikely to encounter the ghost of this well-known circus ringmaster, you may stumble upon some other eerie sights.
Numerous visitors have heard a young boy cry out for his mother, even when the cemetery was completely empty.
The creepy sound is enough to send chills down anyone's spine!
Others have encountered the ghosts from Native peoples who used to live on this land.
It's also believed that Santeria rituals took place within Mountain Grove Cemetery.
In 2009, police discovered two human skulls within the grounds. Next to them were several loose, bloody papers with names written on them.
If you're feeling brave, explore Mountain Grove Cemetery when dusk falls.
You may just come face to face with a force from the other side.
