During the winter, the landscape is unobstructed by foliage. Take in the scenery of the Connecticut River and neighboring forests for a chance to spot eagles in the wild.
Climb aboard the cozy and heated vintage rail cars. Master Wildlife Conservationists from CT’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will be on board to share their knowledge and help you spot wildlife along your journey.
The large windows afford a great view, so keep your eyes peeled for the majestic eagles that populate the area this time of year.
Bring your binoculars for a more focused view. Eagles, red-tail hawks, heron nests and harbor seals have been spotted on past trips.
Purchase sandwiches, soup, snacks, and beverages right on board the train if your tummy starts to rumble. Adults can even enjoy a relaxing glass of wine on the train.
The Eagle Flyer will depart from the Essex Train Station. The train will make stops at Deep River, Chester and Hadlyme Stations to pick up passengers.
Choose to take a break with an optional 1/2 hour shopping excursion at Goodspeed Station Country Store or extend your ride on the newly opened track in Haddam.
