Modern life has a great many conveniences. It's fantastic being able to log on your computer or cell phone and order items to be sent to your front porch. But there's something to be said for the days of yore when we all shared the same community store. Traveling down to a general store to pick up groceries and home goods used to be a weekly tradition that has gone by the wayside for most. But the dream of old-fashioned general stores is alive and well in the Nutmeg State. You can still visit many old-time country stores in Connecticut. Here are a few of our favorites:
1. Old Wethersfield Country Store: 221 Main St, Wethersfield, CT 06109
The Old Wethersfield Country Store is right in the heart of historic Wethersfield. They've got lots of unique items like gifts and cheeses. You won't want to miss their chocolates!

2. Colebrook Store: 559 Colebrook Rd, Colebrook, CT 06021
Built in 1812, the Colebrook Store claims to be the oldest general store in Connecticut. Their little deli has some incredible grinders.

3. Round Hill Store: 369 Round Hill Rd, Greenwich, CT 06831
The Round Hill Store is another country store in Connecticut that has been around for centuries. They sell food items as well as general goods, just as they have since the early 1800s.

Not much has changed since the early days of Round Hill Store! Walking in here will feel like a step back in time.
4. G. M. Thompson and Sons, Inc.: 54 Middle Turnpike, Mansfield Depot, CT 06251
G. M. Thompson and Sons has been around since 1875. The building has been added onto several times, and at one point contained the town's post office. They now focus mostly on pet products and lawn and garden items, though they have a deli as well.

5. Newtown General Store: 43 Main St, Newtown, CT 06470
This old-fashioned sandwich shop not only has delicious food, they've also got candy and gifts as well. The building was constructed in 1847 and the restaurant opened in 2002.
