If you ask us, visitor centers don't get enough credit. They're not just places to stop for bathroom breaks on long road trips. In today's world of having the internet in your pocket at all times, it's easy to dismiss the old-fashioned visitor center as obsolete. After all, if you have access to a search engine, why do you need paper brochures? We've got some great visitor centers in Connecticut that are here to prove you wrong. One of my personal favorites is in the Old State House in Hartford, Connecticut. This historic building in Connecticut is a wonderful way to spend a few hours, and the visitor center here is the ideal place to be welcomed to your destination.
As you can probably guess from the name, this building in downtown Hartford was once the site of the state government. Constructed in 1796, it's been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
The first floor here is home to the Greater Hartford Information Center. It's the perfect place to learn more about things to do in Connecticut.
Looking to learn more about the history of Connecticut? There's plenty to explore here, with exhibits on important facets of state history.
While the State House no longer operates as an official government building, you can still see where the state's three branches of government once practiced.
Farmers markets are held here regularly during the warm months. It's a great opportunity to pick up some Connecticut-grown goods!
The third floor is home to a curiosities museum that's pretty off the wall.
” target=“_blank”>unique museum has taxidermied animals, curiosities like a two-headed calf, and plenty more.
Whether you're a local or just visiting, there's always more to learn about the Nutmeg State, and this is a great stop for picking up some historical knowledge.
