There are plenty of ferry and boat tours in Connecticut that showcase our incredible coastline. But if being a passenger on a boat full of people isn't your style, then maybe you'd rather be in the driver's seat. The best part - you don't need any experience to embark on this one-of-a-kind boat adventure.
Mystic Boat Adventures allows you to drive one of their boats down the Mystic River. Tours run seven days a week from late-May to mid-October if the weather cooperates.
The CraigCat two-person boat is safe and easy to learn to drive. You don't need a boater's license - just a valid driver's license to drive the boat. You must be 18-years-old to drive and at least 8-years-old to be a passenger.
You'll need to arrive at the dock in Noank at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your tour. You'll then fill out the required paperwork and receive a 15-minute lesson on safety and operation of the boats.
Feel perfectly at ease on this boat adventure. The CraigCat is designed not only for fun but for safety. They are virtually unsinkable with high-density foam pontoons and the way they are designed to turn makes them impossible to flip over.
Tour the scenic coastline with a small cooler on board to carry drinks and snacks during your three-hour tour. A knowledgeable guide will make sure you see all the best sights.
Viewing the ships and buildings of Mystic Seaport from the water gives you a unique perspective on the quaint shoreline.
You can also play on the water. If you ask, the guide will teach you how to do donuts on the water!
You'll also get to pass under the drawbridge which is a bit of a thrill in itself.
One thing is for sure, this boat adventure is fun in a way like no other in the area.
Mystic Boat Adventures is located at 145 Pearl St., Noank, Groton, CT 06340. You will want to visit their website for more information on booking tours.
