Unique dining destinations offer a glimpse at a side of Cleveland that even locals don't always get to see. Food often tells the stories of the people that have settled in our city, and many antique environments remind us of what our city once was. If you're hoping to step back in time while dining, there's one restaurant that's entrenched in local history, and its home base has roots that stretch back further in time.
Welcome to Johnny's Downtown, a sister restaurant to the long-standing Johnny’s Bar on Fulton Road.
Located in the glorious Warehouse District at 1406 West Sixth St., this destination is full of history.
Johnny’s Downtown opened in 1993, much more recently than the original Johnny’s Bar, but the building in which it is located has an even older history.
The building dates back to the 1860s, and it once operated as a general store. As soon as you enter Johnny's Downtown, you'll feel the presence of years of history.
The specialty here is Italian eats, and many menu items include secret family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.
The founders' mother, Frannie, taught the chefs old family traditions to perfectly prepare food. Her grandmother's marinara recipe is one of many delicious items on the menu.
With a stunning milieu, incredible and authentic eats, and friendly staff, what more could you need?
The answer? Live music and a patio make every night memorable.
Pianist Mike Petrone visits the bar Monday through Friday, and seasonal events on the patio provide the opportunity for outdoor concerts.
And if you truly want to make your night memorable, perhaps you'll dine in the Mural Room or wine cellar.
The wine cellar combines the raw features of this antique building with a bit of Tuscan flair, and the aptly-named Mural Room is an artist's daydream come to life. Both are equally enchanting treats that will add a bit of flair to your dining experience.
If you're looking for a meal you'll never forget, look no further than this Civil War-era building in the Warehouse District.
Johnny’s Bar has already made one family's old-fashioned Italian food endlessly popular in Cleveland, but this unique restaurant takes the dining experience one step further.
With a menu that'll delight your senses and an ambiance that celebrates family and Cleveland alike, this restaurant is sure to become one of your favorites.
Just look for their vintage-inspired sign - it casts an appropriately heavenly glow on this local hot spot.
You can make a reservation on the restaurant's website here.
Johnny's Bar has long entertained locals with made-from-scratch Italian food, but this antique destination makes the dining experience even. Do you have a favorite menu item here? Share it in the comments!
