Cincinnati is filled with history and beautiful scenery and it feels like winning the lottery when you get to experience both at the same time. There are quite a few opportunities to do this in Cincinnati and one of them is aboard the nostalgic Anderson Ferry. Our city's beloved ferry has been taking people back and forth across the Ohio River for two centuries. If you have yet to experience this historic ride, then make plans to take this one of a kind ferry boat adventure you can only have in Cincinnati.
In spring of 2017, Anderson Ferry celebrated its bicentennial, meaning it has been making trips across the Ohio River for 200 years.
The original Ferry was started by George Anderson in 1817 and the ferry itself was run by horses on a treadmill of sorts.
Today, the Anderson Ferry has the shortest trip from the west side of Cincinnati to Northern Kentucky, and many take it to avoid the traffic surrounding downtown. It's also a convenient way to reach the CVG Airport.
Many also continue to take the ferry just for the adventurous experience.
In fact, it's basically a bucket list item that every Cincinnatian should experience at least once.
You can reach the Ferry either by River Road in Hebron or River Road on the west side of Cincinnati.
The boat runs year round and is only slowed down by the weather. You can keep an eye on their website and their Twitter for up-to-date information.
The Anderson Ferry is a very affordable way to cross the river and save some time.
A car is $5 for a one-way trip and other types of vehicles vary in price. They only accept cash, so keep that in mind before you go.
When you reach the ferry landing, you'll wait for the next one to arrive, then drive onto the boat as directed by a staff member.
During the ride, they will come around and collect your ticket money. Most people tend to stay in their cars, but you can get out and take in more of the view.
The views are a big part of what makes this historic ride across the river an unforgettable one.
The Anderson Ferry runs from 6 am to 8 pm during the week, 7 am to 8 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 8 pm on Sunday.
That means you can ride the Ferry during sunrise and sunset, which are arguably the most magical times.
But no matter when you decide to ride, just make sure you experience this unique ferry boat adventure in Cincinnati.
Anderson Ferry combines history, scenery, and convenience, all in one incredible Cincinnati destination. Have you taken this ferry boat adventure in Cincinnati? Share your memories with us in the comments!
