When you're tried of visiting the same old Chicago attractions, it's time to try something new. These are nine of the most underrated places in the city that even locals don't always know about.

1. Garfield-Clarendon Model Railroad Club (4501 N Clarendon Avenue)

The best thing about this Uptown neighborhood attraction is that it's completely free to enter. This model railroad is a sight to see, and you'll even get to operate the trains. Though it's a must for rail fans, there's something here for everyone to enjoy.

2. Chicago Pedway (the Loop)

3. Museum of Contemporary Photography (600 S Michigan Avenue)

This has been one of the most underrated places in the city since it opened in 1976. While it's well-known in the art community, not everyone is so lucky to know that it exists. Featuring photographers from around the world (and most especially our home turf), you don't want to miss this inspiring gallery.

4. Lucent at the John Hancock Center (875 N Michigan Avenue)

While pretty much everyone knows about the John Hancock Center, you may be surprised to discover this amazing sculpture inside. Created by Wolfgang Buttress, the work hangs in the lobby of the building for all to see.

5. The Chicago River Walk (downtown)

Many people, Chicagoans included, forget that one of the best ways to view the city is along the river. Bridges and sidewalks take you by the water where you'll see passing boats. You could spend a whole day walking and stopping in at different shops and cafes along the way.

6. Phyllis' Musical Inn (1800 W Division Street)

While you've probably heard of this place if you live in Wicker Park, most Chicagoans have never heard of this dive bar. It's been around since the 1950s and features live performances and amazing drinks.

7. Milton Lee Olive Park (N Lake Shore Drive)

Located near Ohio Street Beach, this park is ideal for walking, jogging, or relaxing in the sun. It features fountains as well as tall honey locus trees that provide wonderful shade. Views of the skyline and Lake Michigan abound, making this one of the most underrated places for photography.

8. Merz Apothecary (4716 N Lincoln Avenue)

Though it has been round since 1875, this natural health care store has kept up with the times, offering modern remedies for your ailments. This place is a treasure trove of hard-to-find products, personal care items, and other natural supplements for improving mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

9. Berger Park (6205 N Sheridan Road)

Just south of Loyola, this lakeside park is filled with million dollar mansions you must see. Though you may not be able to afford to live in this part of Edgewater, you can at least hang out at the beach and enjoy the views.
