San Francisco is no doubt a beauty. It's also a wonderfully weird place filled with freaks and geeks (and even still some hippies) always in search of the next great thrill. And it all sits precariously close to some pretty serious fault lines. In other words, it's time to get out there and experience every unique and crazy thing this fabulous city has to offer. Note: I had to put a cap at 15 on this list of the best things to do in San Francisco or I'd drive myself crazy. Have fun out there. Maybe even get naked.
1. Walk or bike across the Golden Gate Bridge … then take the ferry back from Sausalito.
2. Battle the runners, the partiers, and the nudists for 7 miles, from the Bay to the Breakers.
3. Attend a show at The Fillmore and be sure to grab a free poster on your way out.
4. Have a picnic in front of the Painted Ladies in Alamo Square, Full House-style.
5. BYOB at the annual (and free!) Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, and/or head to Stern Grove for their free summer concert series.
6. Go see the World Champion Giants (but mostly just eat and drink a lot).
7. Clear your mind by walking the labyrinth at Land's End.
8. Peruse the vinyl section at Amoeba Records (and try to catch a free show while you're at it).
9. Play hooky on a warm day and bask in the sun at Dolores Park.
10. Explore and eat your way through the Ferry Building. Come on an empty stomach.
11. Leave the tourists to Twin Peaks, and climb the city's highest peak at Mt. Davidson.
12. Sing-along to a cheesy classic at the Castro Theatre.
13. Become an expert at Mission-style burritos. Endlessly argue over who makes the best.
14. Be like a Beat and buy a book from the City Lights Bookstore.
15. Show your Pride.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg (the peninsula?!), folks. Let us know what else you think is absolutely essential to include on this list of the best things to do in San Francisco.
