Any day in the summertime is a great day for a beach day. However, a fun event makes heading to the beach even more worthwhile! Plan a beach day to Pacifica this July for a two-day amateur surfing contest. This NorCal surfing event features two competitions: one for surfers over the age of 40, and another for children 18 and under.
The 24th Annual Kahuna Kupuna Benefit Surf Contest will take place on Saturday, July 13 from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Youth Surf Contest takes place on Sunday, July 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both contests take place on Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica.
This Saturday event is for amateur surfers over the age of 40. The day's contests will have various subdivisions for men and women, as well as longboard and shortboard surfers.
There is no age limit for this contest! Awards will be given at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The Sunday event for amateur youth surfers has several categories, including surfers ages 10-18, plus a push-in contest for surfers 8 and younger.
To see all the various youth categories and register for the competition, check out this page.
There is still time to enter the surfing contest. It costs $90 to enter the 40 and over contest, and $50 to enter the youth contest.
Watch the Saturday event and get a box lunch for $15. Tickets and entry forms are available on Eventbrite for the Saturday event.
"Kahuna Kupuna," loosely translated from Hawaiian, means "Big Chief Wise Elder," making it an apt name for the world's only amateur surf contest exclusively for surfers aged 40 and over.
So whether you want to surf or watch the surfers, this two-day event presents a great opportunity to visit Pacifica and enjoy Linda Mar Beach.
Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica is famous for several reasons. First, it's a popular surfing beach. On most weekends, especially in the summer, you'll find the beach packed with people watching the many surfers ride the waves.
Second, this beach is a good spot to whale watch. And, finally, this beach has a beach-shack style Taco Bell with a deck overlooking the beach. This is perhaps one of the most unique fast-food locations in the world.
So, whether you pack a picnic lunch or dine at Taco Bell, you can enjoy lunch overlooking Linda Mar Beach, also known as Pacifica State Beach next to the community of Linda Mar.
When we visit Pacifica, we usually stop by the Safeway to pick up snacks and drinks before heading to the beach. If you want to dine out, consider Nick's Rockaway seafood restaurant, a long-standing local favorite with live music and ocean views.
So check out this NorCal surfing event this July in Pacifica! This is an excellent chance to spend the weekend out with family and friends exploring the surf events, restaurants, and shops in Pacifica and along the coast.
