Avocados may have only become trendy in recent years, but they've been a Golden State icon for generations. The Fallbrook Avocado Festival is a one-of-a-kind event that pays homage to California's official state fruit and the rich agricultural heritage that goes along with it. Taking place in the town that calls itself "The Avocado Capital of the World", you're in for a fun-filled day when you attend this popular California avocado festival that features local vendors, artists, and all of the avocado-based foods you could possibly enjoy. Mark your calendar for this year's Fallbrook Avocado Festival dates on April 24, 2024! Do not miss one of the best spring festivals in SoCal.

Slightly hidden among rolling hills and lush groves, Fallbrook is a gem of a town in San Diego County. Claiming to be "The Avocado Capital of the World," the town's annual Avocado Festival draws large crowds from all over the state.

That's right; this spring festival in SoCal is completely devoted to the avocado. Deemed California's official state fruit in 2013, the avocado represents the Golden State's strong ties to agriculture. It's also just an awesome fruit that goes with just about everything!

With Halloween just around the corner, we're always looking for ways to embrace the spooky season. Fortunately, that's not so difficult here in Northern California, especially with events like TreasureFest. If you haven't heard, TreasureFest is a monthly festival in the Bay Area that celebrates all things local. From hand-made gifts to vintage finds, mouthwatering food, artistic creations, and much more, this is one festival that belongs on your radar. And to close out for the 2024 season, the event is hosting a fall-themed extravaganza on Sept. 28-29, 2024. We'll see you out there!

Welcome, one and all, to the Bay's monthly festival, known as TreasureFest. And September's event is perhaps the most anticipated of the year given that it's a celebration of all things fall. Festival goers are invited to wear their most festive costumes and participate in events including a costume black carpet, pumpkin painting stations, and even the chance to go thrifting for your Halloween costume.

At the heart of the event is the chance to celebrate local makers and artisans; each event showcases over 300 creators, and there's truly something for everyone. From jewelry to crafts, decor, clothing, and more, you'll likely leave with an entire haul of treasure.

TreasureFest will be taking place from Sept. 28-29, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 500 Avenue N, San Francisco 94130. Parking is free on a first-come, first-served basis. Ferries will be running daily from the SF Ferry Terminal to Treasure Island. The event is open to all ages and it's also dog-friendly. Join a centuries-old tradition and enjoy family fun at the annual Apple Butter Festival in Oak Glen, CA.

Fall in Southern California may have everyone thinking about pumpkins, but it is also the perfect time to enjoy all things apple - from picking your own fruit to fresh apple cider (and apple cider donuts!) to delicious apple butter. Apple butter making is a tradition found in several parts of the country and one that started in the U.S. hundreds of years ago. The annual Apple Butter Festival in Oak Glen, CA, which is known for its apple farms and cideries, is an opportunity for everyone to come join the fun and honor this long-standing tradition. And I think it may be the fall season’s most charming harvest celebration.

As far back as the 16th century, colonial farmers would come together, bringing their last apples of the year, to celebrate an abundant harvest and the changing of seasons. The last of the annual produce was boiled down to make preserves that would last them through the winter. This tradition was more than a practical way to keep from losing any apples and being able to enjoy them until the next harvest. It was also an enjoyable way to preserve a spirit of community for these early families who, in addition to making apple butter, celebrated with music, dancing, and a feast.

Riley’s at Los Rios Rancho now hosts the annual Apple Butter Festival each year on Thanksgiving weekend. The historic ranch is an ideal place for this harvest celebration, and there is plenty of fun to be had. For starters, families will enjoy apple butter making the traditional way - outdoors in the ranch’s 100-year-old copper pot. Do you know what it means to “start the snitz” or “add the money” when making apple butter? Join a hands-on demonstration and find out!

Other fun activities will include pioneer crafts, fall foliage carriage rides, games, pumpkin painting, cider tasting, an Oak Glen Treasure hunt, and a Saturday night hoedown. Admission to the festival is free, but note that small fees and/or tickets are required for some activities, such as the hoedown.
