Arkansas is known for many things. The state is home to countless natural wonders as well as active diamond and crystal mines. And of course, we have delicious food, rich agriculture, and so much more. But did you know that the Natural State is home to a massive quirky collection? Yes y'all, we have one of the world's largest Santa collections in Arkansas. And certainly, you’ll want to see it for yourself.
The town of Searcy in central Arkansas comes to life during Christmas time. There are parades, Christmas light displays, scavenger hunts, and everything else for a festive holiday season.
But the town is also home to one of the world's largest Santa collections. And with almost 1,700 pieces of Santa trinkets, you’ll be impressed by it all.
Starting around mid-November, the collection will be on display at the Carmichael Community Center and will last throughout the holiday season.
And the center is located on Elm Street in the town of Searcy. About 4 years ago, this quirky collection became part of the Christmas tradition in the town.
Perhaps you’re wondering about the origin of such a vast Santa collection…well, the story behind it is quite charming to say the least.
It all began back in the early 1960s with a woman named Mrs. Wanda Emde. She grew up with very little, but had a huge heart and loved everything about Santa Claus.
As a child, she fell in love with Santa when she received tiny gifts in her Christmas stockings even though the family didn’t have a lot.
She always loved and kept the spirit of Santa dear to her, and in 1964, she received her first Santa piece from her daughter.
Well, after that year, Mrs. Emde collected Santa trinkets, and 50 years later, built a collection of almost 1,700 pieces.
Unfortunately, the Santa Lady, as she was lovingly called has now passed on, but prior to her passing, most of the collection was donated to the town of Searcy.
Each one of the 1,700 pieces had a special meaning to Mrs. Emde, and she wanted to pass this gift on for others to enjoy.
Talk about the gift that keeps on giving - the true meaning of the Christmas season. This charming lady and her cherished collection are a gift to us all.
