The next time you have a day to kill, choo-choose to visit the Ruland Junction Toy Train Museum! A must-visit for train enthusiasts of all ages, the museum features two floors of trains and memorabilia, which have been collected over the course of decades.
A small town gem, the Ruland Junction Toy Train Museum is in Heber Springs.
The museum is housed in a replica of an old-fashioned rural train depot, making a visit a delight right from the start.
Of course, the best part of the museum is the interior, which is chock full of toy trains and train-related memorabilia.
Amassed over the course of 90 years, the collection is massive. It’s also utterly unique.
The collection is so big that it takes two floors to showcase all of it.
On the first floor of the museum, you’ll find standard gauge trains, most of which are from the 1920s and 1930s.
In addition to intricate train displays, the first floor includes a library, which is filled with books and magazines about, you guessed it, trains.
The museum’s second floor is jam-packed with interactive layouts.
Because of the museum’s location on the tracks, real-life train sightings are a possibility. And from time to time, special trains, like the Big Boy steam locomotive, make an appearance.
Big Boy is scheduled to pass through Arkansas August 25 and 27, 2021. A pretty big deal, it hasn’t come through Arkansas since 2019. Click here to learn more.
