History buffs will rejoice as we stroll through this well-preserved and historic Ozark village in Arkansas.
If you have ever wondered what life was like when our ancestors settled in the Ozarks, then wonder no more.
Let's step back in time on a self-guided tour at Mountain Village 1890 in Bull Shoals to experience life as a pioneer in the 1800s.
Opened in 1960, the restored village is a living tribute to folks who settled in remote regions of the Ozarks. Inside the village, you'll find 9 structures that are accurate historical representations of early settlements.
They include the 1903 Pyatt Depot and a locomotive engine, as well as a jailhouse, a blacksmith, a schoolhouse, and more.
As the oldest structure in the village, the Martin House is a 2-story log house built around 1830, that functioned as a bed and breakfast.
Originally located in Newton County, the cabin is important because in 1893 Herbert Hoover stayed there for 3 weeks while working in the area.
Another historical relic is this tiny home that was built in 1874. It was the only home that survived a deadly tornado in 1904 in what is now the town of Flippin.
Of course, the little ones will enjoy the train depot and the locomotive engine. You'll want to grab your cameras and take some pics for your collection.
Folks love stepping inside some of these buildings to get close up views of all the furniture, tools, and more that were used by early settlers.
The jailhouse might just be one of the most interesting structures inside the village. The metal "hot box" was relocated from Calico Rock and was used in the movie "The Bootlegger".
Other buildings include a schoolhouse, a blacksmith, and a church that is used for weddings. Plus, there are also several machines, tools, farm equipment, and more.
As the centerpiece of the town, you must step inside the General Store. It was built in 1889 and will transport you back in time.
A walk through the store will be a true representation of the simplicity of 19th century Ozark life.
Mountain Village 1890 is located at the Bull Shoals Cavern, which makes it a great way to experience the Ozarks both above and below ground.
