Arkansas is known for its many urban legends, creepy towns as well as abandoned buildings. Seeing some of these places and hearing the stories behind them has sent chills down my spine. I am not a fan of spooky or abandoned structures, but I know many of you are. So, if that’s your thing, I found an abandoned spot in Williford Arkansas that is eerily beautiful, but I wouldn’t recommend visiting after dark. Morgan’s Mill is an old water wheel located on Martin Creek just east of the town of Hardy, and it’s one of the most eerily beautiful, abandoned places in Arkansas.
Just 40 miles north of Batesville, in the tiny town of Williford, Arkansas you'll find Morgan's Mill.
Not much is known about when this two-story wooden mill was built, but it has been abandoned for almost two decades.
This hidden gem was the sight of the Battle of Morgan's Mill at Martin Creek, a Civil War skirmish in 1864 which resulted in a victory for the Confederacy.
A historical marker was installed at Morgan's Mill to commemorate the battle and to pay respect for the lives that were lost.
Its location at Martin's Creek makes it a great backdrop for nature photography, especially during the spring and summer months.
As you can see, nature is reclaiming this abandoned mill but there is still some beauty left to be admired.
Over a decade ago, the water stopped flowing at the mill and it has been left unattended, and as you can see from the inside, there hasn't been much done to maintain this timeless relic.
Please note that you can take pictures at the site, but due to its condition, folks are no longer allowed inside.
Some 5 or 6 years ago, efforts were made to save the mill but to no avail. So, the abandoned site serves as a reminder of the distant past.
Today, this eerie abandoned place in Arkansas is visited by folks passing through Sharp County on Highway 412/US Highway 62.
And some have captured some beautiful but spooky images at the site.
While the mill is gorgeous during the day, I wouldn't risk visiting after dark. Especially because of the lives that were lost at this Civil War site.
Who knows what kind of restless spirits from the war are still lingering around.
The mill is listed as private property, but if you find yourself in Sharp County at the Waterwheel Flea Market, do stop by and take a look.
Just don't get caught at this creepy abandoned place after dark.
