October reminds us how thrilling it is to be scared. Halloween may get a bit hokey with the cheesy movies and the staged haunted houses, but it also makes us remember the real horrors. The urban legends that seeped out of true tragedies and into raw nightmare fuel. There’s a couple of roads in Arkansas that have a reoccurring weirdness that can’t be explained. One road in particular, just south of Little Rock, has travelers repeating the same surreal story. You should definitely avoid this street, especially after dark or you may be sharing in the same haunting experience.
There’s a tiny town about 20 miles south of Little Rock called Woodson. It's one of those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it places. If you’re trying to avoid I-530, then you’ll more than likely be taking Highway 365. And that’s where our haunting starts.
The details may change on account of who was driving but the story stays the same. Late, late on rainy nights (because when else would a ghost want to come out?) drivers will see a hitchhiker walking through the wet.
The hitchhiker is a young woman. She’s disheveled, possibly had one too many, and asks to be taken home.
Once the driver gets into town, they pull up to the right address. The girl asks the driver to knock on the door since the house is dark. The driver obliges and knocks. An older woman answers and listens as the driver explains picking up the girl.
As the driver turns to gesture towards the car, the girl has disappeared. The woman somberly explains that tonight is the anniversary of her daughter’s death, she had died in a traffic accident. This isn’t the first time someone as tried to bring her home.
Sometimes the girl appears as battered, other times just disarranged. For some, she leaves her jacket in the car. It always gets returned to the grieving mother. The details may change but drivers are still trying to take the girl to her home.
