Fall hasn't officially begun quite yet, but we’re firm believers that it’s never too early to start thinking about Halloween. Start celebrating early at ParaCon, a festival held later this month at the infamous Vulture City Mine near Wickenburg. Come spend some time among mediums and ghost hunters while enjoying themed snacks and drinks, tours of the allegedly haunted property, and so many more spooky activities…if you dare.
Established in 1863, Vulture City was a lively mining community for almost 100 years.
Its abandonment coincided with the start of WWII, when resources were tightly regulated for the war effort. After its residents left, the city slowly began to decay like many other Arizona ghost towns.
Unfortunately, the property underwent a significant amount of deterioration before it was purchased, though renovations brought many of the buildings back into mint condition.
However, not all buildings received a facelift and still show the destructive force of the passage of time.
Vulture City is open for tours from October through May, and traversing the grounds proves a truly eye-opening experience.
You'll pass the ruins, and consequently, the memories, hopes, and dreams, of an entire community whose lives were abruptly upended.
On September 27th & 28th, 2019, before the ghost town officially opens to visitors, ParaCon will kick off Halloween season.
This annual event brings lovers of the otherworldly and inexplicable together in a place rife with lore and superstition. Between workers who died tragically in this very mine shaft to the 18 men hanged for stealing gold, paranormal activity runs amok in the area.
Among the guest speakers are reality TV stars Jay & Marie Yates, UFO Hunter Jeff Woolvine, and psychic medium Stephanie Hutnik.
There will also be hands-on workshops where attendees can learn about past lives, operating paranormal investigation equipment, and so much more.
General admission is $20 per person, and children under 10 get in free.
Add-ons such as meet & greets and participating in the ghost hunt can be purchased online ahead of time.
The festival will take place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on September 27 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 28. A ghost hunt will follow from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the final day.
Address: 36610 355th Avenue, Wickenburg, AZ 85390.
Visit the festival's website to learn more and purchase tickets.
