Arizona is filled with dreamy landscapes, so it's kind of hard to choose just one location that emulates the surreal settings that we might find in dreams. But, I found it!
Upon first driving up to the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, a protected area managed by the Bureau of Land Management, it just seems like another mesa which is not uncommon in the area. However, the dream-like landscapes are just beyond that ridge.
Located along the Arizona-Utah border, Vermilion Cliffs National Monument has some incredible landscapes that upon first sight appear Seussian in nature. The landscape shows off dramatic, vibrant colors. Cliffs, ridges, and other landscapes flow in a way land typically doesn't.
That smooth flow of winding land is one of the most striking parts of Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. Most people are familiar with The Wave, which calls the park home, and that is just one of the surreal views you'll find here.
Other areas, like these rock formations and White Pocket, show a more alien side of the landscape. You can only imagine the thoughts running through travelers minds while moving through this area.
To me, places like this are paradise. While it may be lacking in obvious examples of life, the life that does exist shows a hardiness and determination to thrive despite its circumstances. And that's a dream that I hope we can all share for the future: tenacity and strength.
This video below is a bit long, but it provides some fantastic views and pertinent information about visiting the national monument.
Do you think Vermilion Cliffs makes for a perfect dreamscape? What other Arizona locations do you think look like the perfect setting for a dream?
