The Hammer Museum in Haines isn’t just the world’s largest hammer museum; it’s the world’s only hammer museum.
This museum is dedicated to preserving the fascinating history of this vital tool. Opened in 2002, it has been a hit with countless visitors to the Haines area.
The museum boasts over 2,000 hammer artifacts on display at any given time.
An additional 8,000 are in storage, making up the world’s largest hammer collection. The museum details the history of this complex tool, including the many patents that the hammer has gone through during the previous hundreds of years.
You’ll see blueprints and patents of original designs and be able to trace the evolution of the hammer throughout the years.
Even visitors who weren’t really into hammers or in a trade that uses hammers have found themselves captivated by the sheer amount of tools surrounding them when they walk in. And the staff is incredibly knowledgable and passionate about their subject.
Prices to visit are $7.00 for adults.
Kids under 12 have free admission if an adult accompanies them. And that might be a good idea because there are so many enticing things to grab and smash!
The museum is open seasonally each year from May through September.
They are open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. You can also visit during the off-months by making an appointment. Many researchers swing by to learn more about this fascinating tool.
