Alabama is home to several types of attractions, including a variety of museums. While some of the museums are well known, others aren't. In fact, unless you live in the same town as a museum, you might not know it even exists. One of the most fascinating museums that most Alabamians have never heard of is the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. To learn all about this museum, take a look below.
The Pioneer Museum of Alabama, which opened in 1971, celebrates pioneer heritage within a unique setting. It's also one of Alabama's most fascinating outdoor attractions.
While strolling the museum grounds, you'll get to see how people lived during the 19th century.
For example, there's a pioneer kitchen on display that shows how people cooked during that particular time period.
There's also a bedroom on display, which is surrounded by walls covered in newspapers. Believe it or not, this was a common decorating trend back then.
Covering approximately 40 acres, the Pioneer Museum of Alabama features a variety of historical structures, including several cabins.
One of the museum's most popular structures is Adams General Store, which is also a popular photo op.
The moment you step inside this charming general store, you'll be taken back to a time when things were much simpler.
While at the museum, you'll also get to see a one-room schoolhouse. Back in the day, this type of schoolhouse welcomed students of all ages.
And finally, the Pioneer Museum of Alabama features wagons, carriages, cars, and even a locomotive. These displays are quite popular among visitors, especially children.
