There's no denying that Alabama has seen its fair share of ghosts. 1. Highway 5
Highway 5 is one of the most haunted stretches of road in Alabama. As the story goes, in Lynn, Alabama, along Highway 5, a teenage girl was stuck by an 18-wheeler while walking home from prom. 2. Pickens County Courthouse
The Pickens County Courthouse, located in Carrollton, is the site of Alabama's most famous ghost story, "The Face in the Courthouse Window." According to legend, Henry Wells, a former slave, was accused of arson. To escape a lynching mob, he fled to the attic of the courthouse. While warning the people below that he'd haunt them forever if they hurt him, lightning struck and etched his face into the attic window, which can still be seen today. 3. St. James Hotel
The St. James Hotel, which was built in 1837, is one of Alabama's oldest operational facilities. It's also believed to be one of the state's most haunted hotels. Several guests have reported seeing the ghosts of Jesse James and his girlfriend, Lucinda. 4. Gaines Ridge Dinner Club
Gaines Ridge Dinner Club has been serving the Camden area since 1985, and it's considered to be Alabama's most haunted restaurant. 5. Hell's Gate Bridge
Hell's Gate Bridge, which is located in Oxford, is said to be Alabama's most haunted bridge. As the story goes, a couple's car drove off the bridge and into the water during the 1950s. Supposedly, if you stop your car on the bridge and turn off your lights, a member of the couple will enter your car and leave a wet spot on the seat. 6. Fort Morgan
Fort Morgan, a historic battle site located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, has definitely seen its fair share of ghosts. In 1917, a prisoner committed suicide by hanging himself in the barracks of the fort. Since then, many people have heard his cries during the late night hours. 7. Drish House
The Drish House, located in Tuscaloosa, is believed to be the most haunted house in Alabama. As the story goes, Dr. Drish, the homeowner, died after falling down a stairway. Sarah, Dr. Drish's widow, kept the candles from her husband's funeral to be used at her own funeral. She informed her family and friends that this was all she wanted. In 1884, when Sarah died, her family and friends couldn't find the candles. Following Sarah's funeral, several hauntings occurred inside the Drish House. The most famous haunting is the third-story tower fire. There has never been any evidence of a fire in the tower, and it's believed to be Sarah lighting the candles. 8. Huntingdon College
Huntingdon College is the one college in Alabama where you'll most likely have a ghostly encounter. The most famous ghost is a young girl named Martha. Martha is best known as the "Red Lady." Martha never wanted to attend Huntingdon College, but she had to in order to fulfill her father's wishes. Martha didn't get along with anyone on campus, and she eventually became very depressed. After failing to attend classes, her dormitory president went to check on her. Sadly, Martha had committed suicide by slitting her wrists. 9. Old Cahawba
Old Cahawba, located in Dallas County, is Alabama's most famous ghost town. There's no denying that Old Cahawba could be the setting of a horror film. It's seriously that eerie!
