According to the website The Lineup, Tuscaloosa's historic Drish House is the most haunted place in Alabama. For those of you unfamiliar with the Drish House, it was built in 1837 in the middle of a 450-acre plantation by Dr. John R. Drish, one of Tuscaloosa's earliest settlers.

So, how did this historic plantation home become the most haunted place in Alabama? Well, here's how the story goes:
Dr. Drish loved gambling and drinking. He died in 1867 from falling down a stairway while he was supposedly drunk. Sarah, Dr. Drish's widow, was obsessed with planning her husband's funeral, so much so that it became an over-the-top, elaborate event. She kept the candles from his funeral and decided when she died, those same candles were to be used at her funeral.
Sarah died in 1884. Her family members searched everywhere for the candles, and did everything in their power to fulfill her last wish. Sadly, the candles were never found and her last wish was never fulfilled. Many people believe this angered Sarah enough to where she's responsible for the hauntings that have occurred inside the Drish House over the years.

The best-known haunting to occur at the Drish House is the third-story tower fire. There have been several reports of a fire in the third-story tower. However, there's never been any evidence of a fire. Many people now assume that Sarah was lighting the candles that were supposed to be used for her funeral.
In 2008, paranormal investigators toured the Drish House and captured several strange occurrences. Check out the video below.
The Drish House was featured in the short story "Death Lights in the Tower," in the popular book 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey, by Kathryn Tucker Windham and Margaret Gillis Figh. Today, it's used as a venue for hosting large events, including parties and weddings.
