Bethany Beach is a small Delaware beach town, right on the Atlantic Ocean. Year-round, it's home to just over 1,000 residents, and in the summer, the population swells to around 15,000. That's still a lot less than Rehoboth Beach, or even Dewey Beach, sees in the peak tourism months. This is one of the quieter beach towns in the area, but it's certainly not one where you'll lack things to do! In fact, Bethany might be the best kept secret in the state.
Bethany Beach is a true gem when it comes to Delaware beach towns.
Many people skip over Bethany because of its reputation as the quieter, family town. Those people have no idea what they're missing!
The beautiful sand and clean water are reason enough to visit...
Surfing, swimming, and laying out are exactly what Delawareans need in the summer, and Bethany is the place to go to beat the crowds.
And the boardwalk is the perfect place to grab fries after a dip in the Atlantic.
All of the classic sandy summer foods are here - so grab some fries, some ice cream, or some popcorn and pop in and out of the shops that hug the shoreline.
But there's SO much more that the town has to offer!
The beach and boardwalk are the obvious draws, but the town hosts so many events! From pirate festivals to late-night bonfires (without the parking challenges of Dewey), you'll be shocked when you see the town's Event Calendar. Catch a movie on the beach starting in June, enjoy a Caribbean kickoff party on Memorial Day Weekend, or listen to live music at the Bandstand on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, starting at 7:30 pm! These performances kick off on Memorial Day and run through Labor Day.
The Nature Center is a world-class facility.
With trails open and family friendly activities hosted year round, you can't go wrong bringing kids of all ages here. The first time I visited, I was blown away by the diversity of wildlife in the marshlands around us!
Downtown offers shopping in some amazing boutiques!
Stop by the surf shop, or try on cute clothes in the many boutiques. Local artists often have beautiful crafts for sale in the stores, so it's a great place to pick up a truly unique conversation piece or a gift for that hard-to-buy-for friend in your life.
And the town offers some of the best food in Delaware.
If you look up the top restaurants in Delaware, DiFebo's and Bethany Blues BBQ will almost certainly be on the list. Off the Hoof is one of the best places for fresh seafood in Delaware, and The Parkway is a small, hidden gem that will blow you away with their gourmet meals. There's no end to the incredible selection of restaurants in Bethany - I swear, I could eat here every day for a year, and never have the same meal twice!
So when you're planning your summer day trips or getaways, don't forget the little guy, and put Bethany Beach on your schedule. You'll be so charmed by this small Delaware beach town that you'll want to return again and again!
