Lewes, Delaware is an amazing little town. The First Town in the First State is filled with places to wander, fine dining spots, gorgeous beaches, and a ton of history. Hidden amongst all of the obvious attractions like the Lightship Overfalls and the Cannonball House is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that many people don't realize is possible! From Fisherman's Wharf, you can catch a tour of the Delaware Bay on a charter cruise. Bring your binoculars and a camera, because you're going dolphin and whale watching in Delaware!
Lewes itself is one of the most charming, historic towns in Delaware.
Before or after your cruise, be sure to explore the town! Visit the Lightship Overfalls, stroll the canal front, and stop to enjoy the parks along the water.
Be sure to get to the Wharf on time!
The cruises are very affordable, too, with discounts for children so the whole family can enjoy this adventure. On the morning dolphin cruise, the ship will serve you a complimentary continental breakfast.
The whale watching cruises take place in the afternoon, and they last a little longer. Giving you plenty of time to spot many whales and dolphins as well as enjoy the sights and sounds.
As you take to the water, be sure to keep your eyes on the bay!
The Lewes whales and dolphins love to put on a show, the dolphins may even chase the boat and play in the wake. They're certainly not shy, and on a good day, you'll see many of them surfacing to say hello.
Be sure to look up, too, and take in the gorgeous sights of the Delaware bay!
You'll get close to the lighthouses and you can catch an incredible glimpse of Lewes itself from the water. The town looks so small from far away... meanwhile, the lighthouse looks absolutely massive up close!
Of course, the real treat is seeing the Lewes dolphins and whales up close.
These majestic creatures will take your breath away. Watching them play and splash is an incredible experience.
Like all dolphins, the Lewes Dolphins travel in "pods," so you'll likely see a few of them hanging around. Whales often gather in smaller groups, making those sightings feel even more special!
Don't miss your chance to get up close and personal with the cheeriest residents of the Delaware Bay! Reservations are highly recommended, and you can order your tickets online at the Fisherman's Wharf website.
Once you're back on land, you can continue to enjoy water views at one of the amazing canal front restaurants in Lewes.
Personally, I love to grab lunch at Striper Bites, which made our list of underrated restaurants In Delaware! For dinner, though, nothing beats watching the sunset on the water at Irish Eyes.
